US Presidential Race - Part #1, the Primaries
For those who want to follow the US presidential election post here. The Democratic race is between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and they are currently neck-and-neck with Obama on a winning streak which is worrying Clinton. They seem to flip flop from love-ins to vitriol during the respective campaigns. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/19/johnmccain.hillaryclinton I'm for Obama. (I have my reasons). While the Republicans seem likely to plump for an old war hero with dodgy views on such things as immigration. His closest challenger, since the departure of Romney, is a Baptist preacher, while Ron Paul looks out of it entirely. Which is a pity, since he is the only candidate (of both parties) with anything remotely interesting to say.

I feel the root and core US electors distrust the concept of another Billary administration. Whilst Bangup Obummer has enjoyed a fervent following, I don't believe a majority of US electors could bring themselves to elect a blackman as Pres. Anymore than they could a woman. I believe John Mccain will win the final election. At the end of the day it doesn't make any difference to either the USA or the World. Those special interest groups and lobbyists (as well as the PACs) who have paid the ticket will demand their payback. Very little to chose between any of 'em, really. The US urgently needs an alternative to the seesaw effect of the Dems .v. The GOP. As we need an alternative to the Lab-Tory seesaw. Even more urgently!

Clinton is in trouble after las-*test*-('") round of primaries. March 4th sees a big -*test*-('") and the probable decider. McCain's position strengthens, despite conservative discontent. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/20/uselections2008.usa

Obama is beginning to feel the heat as Clinton (and her friends in the media) begin to turn on the screws. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/24/barackobama.hillaryclinton

Nader is to stand again for the Greens. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7261670.stm I also read somewhere that Ron Paul is going to run as well, despite his disappointing show in the Republican primaries.

Though RP seems to have shot his bolt! http://distributism.blogspot.com/2008/02/ron-paul-selling-his-birthright.html

Tony- 02-24-2008

he sold his birthright and didn't even get what Esau got: a mess of porridge. You can always rely on an American to not understand what he is writing! What a dork!

Some crucial polls tomorrow, while a black cloud (no pun intended) has appeared on the horizon for Obama. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/03/barackobama.uselections2008

I'll stick my neck out on this one and suggest that the momentum that Obama has built up will carry the day against the increasingly shrill-sounding 'Billery'. He needs to watch security because I think that his chances of being assassinated are now very high.

Jack London- 03-05-2008

After last night, McCain is the Republican nominee, while Clinton and Obama continue to slug it out. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/05/hillaryclinton.barackobama1

She clearly won't give up now and she will risk damaging the Democratic Party to get her way.

Tony- 03-05-2008

Why should she give up? Both sides hit below the belt. The thing that disturbs me about the whole thing is how the electorate wind up with a limited choice out of people who have limited ability, based purely on how much money they can either raise/spend or they can guarantee their corporate backers will make out of them.

Percy- 03-06-2008

Why should she give up? How about simple maths? She can't win now.

Philosopher's Stoned- 03-06-2008

Now McCain is unopposed, can you really see the US electorate going for either an untrusted woman or a Black man? I can't!

Percy- 03-06-2008

Not really. Still, thinking about my earlier response to Tony, I suppose that there is still the Democratic 'Dream Ticket' option with one of them agreeing to go for VP. But which one?
