Le Pen Savages Sarkozy

Powerful stuff indeed, but I couldn't see a great deal of discomfort. What I did see, from others, amusement... the same amusement that was shown when others have had a real pop at the EU and the way it steamrollers its way over people. They are amused for one reason: it makes no difference whatsoever because the EU is not democratic, it doesn't give a flying French fcuk what anyone thinks. Le Pen may well be right in EVERYTHING that he says, but after today, tomorrow or even next week, it will be forgotten and limited to a joke around the dinner table. The only way to stop the EU is to destroy it... and I doubt that there is any way in which that can be done until one major country wakes up en masse and says "Enough is enough!" The votes against the constitution and the treaty are a nuisance and have already been dismissed. It will take a lot more than democracy to derail the EU. And someone with a lot more clout than Le Pen.

I enjoyed that, but, Tony, is unfortunately right. Did you see the look on some of their faces? Uncomfortable, yes, but ultimately scornful. Sarkozy, the conservative, united with Cohn-Bendit, the Green leftist. Tossers all, ( to nick PS's well-worn phrase!) Incidentally, was that a reference to Sarkozy's wife in the middle of the speech?
