Italy goes to the polls
And all we have is Anne Widdicombe and Harriet Harman! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/30/italy

Percy- 03-31-2008

...thank goodness!

Jack London- 03-31-2008

Mmmmm, I think the jury is still out on that one.

Tony- 03-31-2008

Well I think I'd rather look at candid shots of Mussolini than I would Widdicombe! Very nice!

Jack London- 03-31-2008

Santanche takes a nice photo as well. http://www.danielasantanche.com/category/news Some good viewpoints also, particularly on immigration and islam.

Percy- 03-31-2008

Call it perverted if you like but I've got a soft spot for dear Anne. She gave me a nice smile outside the council offices in Maidstone a few years back! There's something very British about her.

Jack London- 03-31-2008

You are perverted!!

Percy- 03-31-2008

Possibly... :P Still, until she went blond and lost weight Widdicombe was always a serious no-nonsense politician. Her "Something of the night about him" description of Michael Howard while he was Home Secretary was really wonderful. Politicians are rarely as attractive as models or actresses and I find it suspicious when they are.

Jack London- 03-31-2008

Yes, possibly, but when you have looks and no-nonsense views like Santanche in Italy, it is a double whammy in my opinion.

Percy- 03-31-2008

This is a recent trend in Italian politics. Berlusconi's new sidekick, Miss Italy finalist and former television presenter Michela Brambilla expolits the same interests - see this google search: If they look hard enough at the stocking-tops they might ignore the politics - or the criminal activity!

Jack London- 04-01-2008

An Italian redhead! There can't be many of them about. But I agree about Berlusconi. He's rotten to the core. Which is why Santanche is the best bet amongst the anti-Berlusconi candidates on the nationalist side. Many of the others (Fini, Bossi, etc) have thrown their lot in with Berlusconi in the hope of advancement, power and influence, regardless of their principles.

Tony- 04-01-2008

ER, 'better' pictures HERE

Jack London- 04-01-2008

Two more good reasons to support Santanche, if you ask me. But please, no one should link any nude photos of Ann Widdicombe!!

Percy- 04-01-2008

Berlusconi, who runs television and media companies, knows a thing or two about giving the public what they want and he's quite prepared to use this modern re-hash of the old Roman 'bread and circuses' idea to fool the public into voting for him. Michela Brambillia being interviewed on television on a small chair. Now, what can she wear to attract the maximum amount of attention? A short skirt, stockings and then she crosses her legs for maximum effect. Perfect!! She was being talked about for months. Berlusconi even managed to get a few mentions. The problem is that this ups the ante for the others. How can we top that? Topless holiday photos? Nude photos? In-depth interviews about scandalous sex-lives? The whole thing is unbelievably sleazy and it's no coincidence that the word "Italian" and "politics" never really seem to compliment each other. It might give you a cheap thrill Jack but I'm willing to bet that we won't be seeing any buxom Arian BNP babes any time soon.

Jack London- 04-01-2008

Erm, excuse me, it is not me who is posting links to nude photos of Italian politicians on here! Nor am I getting a cheap thrill!! (Can't speak for Tony, of course!!) But you are right about Italian politics. It seems more showbizzy and celebrity-orientated with lashings of sex appeal thrown in. Not the same here, of course, but Nick Clegg, the Lib Dem leader, seems to be making a bit of an issue about his sexual prowess, judging by recent comments.
